To the Parents

To the parents who were more than medicine
Healing was never a one-way street
I acquired more than I ever could’ve imparted

To the parents, when the goodbye wasn’t a see you later
Your memory will not soon fade
I will carry the lessons from day to day

To the parents whose wounds didn’t just lacerate them
That cut may be healed
But the scars on each of us will forever be raised

To the parents, when healthcare wasn’t enough
Thank you for allowing me the time to stand by your side
For out of sight is never out of mind
