Editorial Board

The editorial board helps ensure the success of the Topical Reviews in Pediatrics (TRiP) mission to help professionals and families work together to better care for children and adolescents. The board advises and supports the editors of TRiP and helps create the Editorial Policy. The associate editors and journal editors make up the board.

Roles and Responsibilities

Editor in Chief

  • Convene meetings, determine board composition, provide oversight and dispute resolution for the board, and serve as the main contact for board-related matters.
  • Make final decisions on publishing content, weighing the recommendations of the authors, reviewers, and editors.

Managing Editor

  • Oversee the editorial process and content production, including initiating updates and managing the peer-review process.
  • Work with editorial board members to fine-tune the journal direction, improve editorial processes and policies, identify new content opportunities, resolve questions or conflicts, and gather suggestions for new writers and reviewers.
  • Ensure the content is clear, accurate, and represents the publication’s values. Edit for clarity and completeness.
  • Manage progress through the writing and editing processes. Prepare and publish final content.
  • Establish editorial guidelines and processes.  Serve as the main contact for day-to-day editorial operations.

Associate Editors

  • Advise on the journal’s scope, content priorities, and editorial policies.
  • Build a network of authors, reviewers, and editorial board members.
  • Review at least 1 manuscripts per year.
  • Ensure adherence to ethical publishing practices, including preventing conflicts of interest and upholding academic integrity.
  • Attend periodic editorial board meetings
  • Promote TRiP to colleagues and peers.
  • Assist in decision-making on issues such as plagiarism claims or disagreements about the facts presented in an article.
  • Identify funding opportunities for the journal.

Consulting Editors

  • Provide essential non-medical expertise and services to TRiP.

Term

A 1-year term typically consists of several 1-hour editorial board meetings plus individual editorial service contributions, as noted above. Associate editors should strive to participate in all meetings. Remote attendance is an option for all editorial board meetings. If unable to attend, associate editors may provide written input via email before the meetings. Meeting minutes and/or recorded meetings are sent to all associate editors and are available upon request. Terms may be renewed annually with the mutual consent of the associate editor and the editor in chief, based on participation in the editorial meetings, carrying out editorial responsibilities, and continued support of the mission of TRiP.

Decision-Making

If consensus is not easily reached, decisions will be made by the votes of the present majority. The editor in chief will determine the outcome of split votes.

Confidentiality

Editorial board members must not share information about submissions with anyone other than the authors, reviewers, and other editorial board members.

Integrity

Editorial decisions should be based on the relevance of a submission to TRiP and the material’s quality and contribution to TRiP’s mission. Those decisions should not be influenced by commercial interests, personal relationships or agendas, or findings that are negative or credibly challenge accepted wisdom.

Editorial board members agree to disclose any potential conflicts of interest, including personal, professional, or financial ties to authors or subjects of manuscripts under review. Each editorial board member is responsible for alerting TRiP editors to any changes in their conflicts of interest.

Human Perspective

TRiP seeks to engage a broad and diverse array of authors, reviewers, editorial staff, editorial board members, and readers. Notify the managing editor or editor in chief if there are concerns about equity, harassment, or inappropriate conduct.
