A Sound

A sound I had heard before
And wished I never had to hear again
The pain,
The love,
The agony
Heard in every sound escaping her lips

A mother
Losing her youngest child
And screaming for
God,
Someone,
Anyone,
To do something
As she collapses
Into oblivion.
And her son’s heart
Takes its last beat
