Letter From the Former Editor in Chief (November 2024)

Welcome to the first edition of Topical Reviews in Pediatrics (TRIP)!

In 2024, under the guidance of Dr. Angelo Giardino, MD, PhD, MPH, FAAP, Chair of the University of Utah Department of Pediatrics, our editorial team developed TRIP as a new platform to feature scholarly works and share valuable related content. The new online journal provides opportunity for faculty, staff, and trainees to highlight their important work in an open-access format.

Prior to TRIP, many faculty, staff, and trainees authored and reviewed content for the Medical Home Portal website, a resource developed for primary care clinicians and families of children and youth with complex health care needs. With hundreds of contributors spanning more than 20 years, this expansive website received around one million visits per year from over 120 countries. Due to online hacking in 2024, the website abruptly ceased its work. Its content is now available at the digital archives of the Eccles Health Sciences Library at the University of Utah.

The silver lining of the Medical Home Portal’s sudden ending was the rapid development of TRIP as a new publication opportunity. I want to thank Dale Herring, our managing editor, who worked diligently to build this new publication from ground up in just over 4 months. I also want to thank Bryan Hull from the Eccles Library who provided us with guidance, technical expertise, and patience. I appreciate Dr. Giardino, Brandy Harman, and the associate editors for breathing life into this new venture.  Finally, to our readers: We are so excited to share this inaugural issue with you, and we invite you to submit contributions to future issues of the journal.

Happy reading!
